An Un-Traditional Challenge

The super-talented Shelly (Stamp with Shelly) has issued a challenge on the Rubbernecker Stamp Company Blog: Make a Christmas card using untraditional colors.

Here is what I came up with:

Silent night and trees

The Snowy Night image was stamped with Pear Tart Memento--the pad is quite juicy so I was able to heat emboss the image with clear embossing powder.

The  Hope and Love  sentiment was stamped over top with StazOn Jet Black.

I sponged Broken China Tim Holtz Distress Ink on the bottom and Concord Grape Tim Holtz Distress Ink on the top.

The cardstock is from Bazzill.   I embellished with jewels and stickles.

I hope you have a chance to play along and then link your project to the Rubbernecker Stamp Company Blog!!

Rolling Eyes)  The sentiment treatment idea came from Anna Wight over at Sassy & Sweet Notes.  THANKS ANNA!

RBC #13--Snowflakes and Such

For Rubbernecker Blog Challenge #13, the queen of bad, Sherry, is hosting the challenge.

She has challenged us to make a card in any shape other than the standard 4.25x5.5.  It can be a long or tall card, or any other shape you want it to be.  Your card must also include snowflakes!  I sure hope you can play along, too!!

CC196--White Wreath

The stamps, Wreath with Bow and Music Background were stamped with VersaMark and embossed with white embossing powder.  I watercolored the wreath using re-inkers.  As you can see, I cut out the image with a Nestabilities die and embossed the background with a Cuttlebug embossing folder.

I hope you can join us for this challenge--it is perfect for Christmas cards, tags, or decorations.  Don't forget to check out the other design team members for MORE inspiration!!

Santa shade
The image is Nick and Fancy Ho! Ho! Ho! from Rubbernecker Stamp Company.
I stamped it with Palette Noir and colored it with Copics. Most of the shading was done on the back. The star on his beard is colored with a silver gel pen--it is very sparkly in real life!
The Ho! Ho! Ho! is stamped with Fired Brick Tim Holtz Distress Ink.  The dots are Liquid Applique. I think it makes the shade have a bit of a chenille feel to it.
The template is available HERE.
Have a great Tuesday!!

Just Buzzzzzzzing Around

Just a quick  post today to show you a card:

Buzzing around

This was a fun one to do.  I used the flight lines from the Bees Sheet to make a flight path around the card.  It was fun to do--I did learn one thing, however.  NUMBER THE SQUARES.  I got them jumbled as I was matting them--and it took me a while to get them back in line.

I bet you are like me--busy as a bee, today.   AND that is why this post is short!

Have a great weekend!

The stars are Grungeboard Mini's. The diamonds are from the Harlequin Grungeboard Basics. I painted the Grungeboard pieces with a gold paint dabber. they were also highlighted with Diamond Stickles.

Today, challenge seekers, your challenge (should you choose to accept it)  is to create a card or project about or using food items.  Come on, you know you're hungry and just waiting for that big Thanksgiving feast!  So use those thoughts and that hunger to inspire you to create.

Please play along with us, and leave a comment HERE linking us directly to your card. We’d love to see your food inspired creation!

Here is my card:

Happy Thanksgiving-RBC11

Since we are heading out  to go "Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house", I decided to keep this one simple.

The dp is by Melissa Frances; all of the cardstock but the main image is Bazzill; the vanilla cardstock is by SU!;  the punch is a Martha Stewart punch,;

I used the Cornucopia stamp from the Rubbernecker Fall section.

I hope you have a joyful Thanksgiving.

100% Genuine

CHOCOLATE!

This is for today’s Limited Supply Challenge #195.  Hosted by my talented friend, Judy!

The theme is Charlie and the Chocolate factory and we were to incorporate a chocolate theme. I used Chocolate Chip cardstock, Rich Cocoa ink (Memento), and actual chocolates. YUMMO!!

Genuine Chocolate
The container is the box in a bag: Diana’s tutorial.  It is easy and fun.  The window is from a Spellbinder's die (Label #1).  The window is from some light bulb packaging (I had to remove it to recycle the box anyway).

The stamps are Yapples from the DoodleFactory and the Plaque Set. All from Starving Artistamps.

Thanks for stopping by my blog--I hope you can get some choco-mojo going and play, too!

Shimmer and Sparkle

It is time for a new Rubbernecker Stamp Company Blog Challenge.

This week is hosted by none other than the queen of collage: Shelly Kuck!!  You can get all the details (and see Shelly's cool card by going: HERE.

Now you know you have bling, or shimmer, or glitter--somewhere in your stash....so lets get a holiday card done and play!!

Here is my "play":

rbc10-Shimmery Silent Night

(note: the oval is not off kilter--I am just a bad photographer)

I got the technique used on this card from Colleen Schaan, on her Technique Tuesday segment of her blog.  She calls it Painting Pearls.  It is super easy.  On dark paper, stamp with VersaMark (or other watermark/embossing pad), clear emboss, and then paint with water and perfect pearls.  You end up with a resist.    I think this technique was made for this stamp!!!

Materials used:

Check out what the rest of the design team has done:

Cake!?!

I know there are people out that that don't like cake.  My son and my mother-in-law are not huge fans (which leaves more for ME!).  But I really do like cake.  I am not usually a fan of the fancy bakery sheet cakes (not that I would turn them away, mind you).  But a good old fashioned Bundt cake or a layer cake brings a smile to my face.

My younger dd has a birthday party to go to today--so I had a good excuse to pull out my Eat Cake Graphics stamps.  Puppies and cake--such a beautiful pair!

morgan birthday

I love this little guy. I sure hope he gets some cake, too!

I also decided to play some more with my alcohol markers.  My coloring is not perfect, but I am pleased with my progress.  Leaving a little white is a challenge to me--but I have noticed that the *pros* do that.

The card base is an embossed card that I got in a box from Die Cuts With a View (DCWV).  I find them VERY handy for birthday cards.

Thanks for stopping by!

Late Inspiration

I had a bit of basement drama this week.  A small drip in my stamp area--which incurred minimal damage--and is now fixed.  But I was unable to concentrate and complete my project for the Rubbernecker Blogger Challenge (RBC).

The RBC #9 was hosted by Broni Holcombe.  She has a MARVELOUS inspiration piece posted:

And here is my card:

RBC09-Pine Peace

I inked the Pine Sprig with Tea Dye then Peeled Paint Tim Holtz Distress Inks.  I quickly embossed the image with clear embossing powder.  I  I then masked a square, and sponged Peeled Paint, Faded Jeans and Broken China--Tim Holtz Distress Inks.

I stamped the Music Background with Tea Dye over top.  The sentiment-Scroll Peace is also stamped with Tea Dye.

It is a great inspiration piece--that could go in sooo many directions.  I hope you head on over to the Rubbernecker Stamp Company Blog and add a link to your own card in the comments section.

be still....

...and listen...

As I mentioned yesterday, I walk my younger daughter to school and back every day. On the way home after dropping her off, I often see little extra bits of nature. It is not surprising that I see more alone, than I do with dd--for I am able to be a bit more quiet than she can be.

These stamps REALLY remind me of the field that we walk next to right before we get to her school (or when I come out from dropping her off). So this card was inspired by the field--and the grayer days we have been having this week.

Be Still and Listen-grassshopper

I kind of broke a stamping *rule* with this card. Normally I use a waterproof ink to stamp the images that I am going to watercolor. But with this card, I colored the stamp with water-based ink and then carefully watercolored some of the areas. I love the subtle look this gives.

The stamps are images from the Bees Sheet from Starving Artistamps. The sentiment is from Faith sentiments set.

So if you have a moment, take a walk outside--even just to get the mail. Enjoy the sounds and sights of the day.

Another Acorn Drops

One of the biggest joys of this autumn is walking my dd to Pre-Kindergarten every day.  We have LOVED watching the leaves change.  One day a tree will be green--the next it is full flaming color.   We love walking through crunchy leaves, and we have noticed the acorns on the last leg of our walk along a row of oak trees.

Today's card was inspired by the acorns along that walk.

wt192--Copper acorns

Materials:

Stamps: acorn from the Bees Sheet from Starving Artistamps;

Papers: 29th St. Market DP; Really Rust (SU!); Watercolor paper;

Inks: VersaMark; various Tim Holtz Distress Inks for watercoloring;

Accessories: brads, tracing wheel; foam tape; copper embossing powder;

Thanks for stopping by--I hope you have a beautiful autumn weekend!

    A Serene Flower

    I decided to try yet another sketch from the Verve Holiday Release Sketch Blitz.  This time it is #4!

    I turned it upside down and came up with this:

    vshr4-Serenity

    This beautiful flower is from the Bees Sheet from Starving Artistamps.  I embossed it with gold on watercolor paper and watercolored it with Distress Ink Re-Inkers.

    The dp is some Anna Griffin paper that I have been hoarding for a long time (it has made two house moves). I figured it was time to cut into it!!
