Happy Hanukkah!

Did you know it is only a month till Hanukkah (Chanukah)!!??!!
It is earlier than usual this year, beginning on the evening of the 27th of November.  That is just 4 weeks from TODAY!

This card uses Dreidel Bears from Hambo Stamps:

The background paper is really light blue cardstock.  I wanted something silver & sparkly on my card so I looked to my silver embossing powder.

1. I inked up the side of the embossing folder that I wanted silver with VersaMark.  When I inked it, I tapped gently so the VersaMark solution wouldn't get into the cracks.
2. I ran the light blue cardstock through my die cut machine inside the embossing folder.
3. I sprinkled silver embossing powder over the inked side of the paper, and heat embossed.

I love the results.  Just what I needed for my card!

A BEST Friend...

Let me preface this blog post with a disclaimer:

I am not a violent person, nor are any of my friends... well, not many of them. ;)

But I am loyal, perhaps to a fault.  Hurt my friends... and... well...

Any way, this card was inspired by the "Hope You Can Cling To (2013) -- #1328 I Clearly Care Challenge" at SplitCoastStampers.  My dear friend Judy challenged us to make clear cards for the cause.

Clear cards scare me... and I have gone through many a transparency in attempts to make one.  But today, I was determined!

On this card, the girl on the right is on top of the acetate front of the card, and the girl on the right is on the inside of the card.

Watercolors and Sympathy

I have a sympathy card for you today.  As usual with sympathy cards, I never make just one... I make a few.

The flowers were inked with distress inks. I use damped cotton swabs ($ store ones are best -- less cotton) with some ink from re-inker bottles.

When the stamp was fully inked it was misted with water and stamped onto white cardstock. (Regular office supply variety).

I masked the flowers with office paper (copy weight) and then stamped the background over it. The background stamp was inked in the same manner... Inked with Shabby Shutters and the edges with Peeled Paint.

The die was then lined up with masked area and run through my machine to emboss but not cut.

Pumpkin Patch Wonder

Since I grew up with "Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", pumpkin patches have a certain mystique to me.  Potential magic?  Perhaps.  Combine this with a misty autumn dusk and a little imagination and the pumpkin patch seems to sparkle. (though here in Michigan, that could be the frost)

I think this little child, "Little Pumpkin Witch" from A Day For Daisies, expects something magical to happen.

To make the wispy clouds, I first colored the background, then took a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol and dabbed it where I wanted the clouds.  If a cloud got out of hand, I would just let it dry, then color over it, then dab the cotton swab again over the area.

Reading, a tradition...

Reading to my children is a tradition.  My mom read to me as her mom read to her and I have read to my children.  AND my grandma and granny read to me as my mother-in-law and mom read to my children.

Reading is how we end our days in our house.

That is what draws me to this image.  It is "Vintage Mother Reading" from A Day For Daisies.

Catching up leaves!

I love fall!  I love the weather (cooler, windy, crisp,) ! I love the clothes (sweaters, jackets)! I love the foods (apples, pumpkins and squash)!  But my favorite part of fall is the leaves.

I walked to school most of my life (except when Mrs. Phillips, a merciful neighborhood mom, drove us).  I loved crunching on the leaves to and from school.  Also, sometimes after a rain they would temporarily stain the sidewalk in a cool overlapping pattern.

Water Friends and a Challenge

It is new release time and challenge time over on the A Day For Daisies.  The new collection is Vintage Mother Love!  You are going to fall in love with these beautiful images.

AND that new release comes with a challenge.  This week it is  #80 ADD FLOWERS.

Here is my card:

It uses Water Friends From ADFD.

After coloring her tail with Copic markers, I went back with the colorless blender and B000 and made little dots for the scales.  The ink pushes the existing color to the side and down into the paper.  Of course her tail is also highlighted with Stickles. (like I could stop myself!)

This card also uses the Deconstructed Sketch No. 121 from Deconstructing Jen.

I have seen what my fellow design team members have created and you are not going to want to miss them... get ready to say "oooh"!

Autumn Vellum

There was an important announcement on the Hambo Hoedown Blog, yesterday!  I am now a Bacon Bit.  In other words I am a part of the Hambo Design Team.

Speaking of Hambo... Please check out yesterday's post on Talk to the Ham (Hambo Stamps Blog).   You will find out some important information on how stampers are coming together to help fund research to combat breast cancer.

The current Hambo Hoedown Challenge is to use vellum on your project. Here is my card:

Details: 

• Image: Sweet Gum Leaf by Hambo;
• Papers: Vellum (from Staples: it went through the printer like a pro!), Lt. Yellow, White & Kraft cardstock; patterned paper from Pebbles Inc.
• Accessories: Spellbinders dies; foam tape, Copic Markers; clear embossing powder, Perfect Pearls in pearl; corner rounder punch;

To get the pearly (doesn't show up as pretty on the pic as IRL) leaf outline, I sprinkled embossing powder on the vellum as soon as it came out of the printer.  After heating the embossing powder and letting it cool, I dusted it with Perfect Pearls Pigment Powder (pearl).  I reheated it from the bottom (wrong side of the vellum).  Once cool I removed the excess powder with a used drier sheet.  

The leaves were colored with Copic Markers on the wrong side of the vellum.
